Bruce has over 33 years of law enforcement experience serving diverse communities, 23 of which were spent in the public safety field offering fully integrated police, fire and medical first responder services.  16 years were in progressively more responsible roles, up to the position of Director of Public Safety.  In this role, Bruce oversaw a staff of 76 employees, 65 of which are sworn public safety officers and a $9 million dollar budget.  Oak Park has 32,500 residents.  During the last four years Bruce has served as Chief of Police in Chesterfield Township, MI., serving a community of 45,000 residents with a staff of 66 employees, 48 of which are sworn officers.  The department budget for FY 2010 is 8.8 million dollars.

Professional Experience

Chesterfield Police Department – Chief of Police          2006 – present

  • Assumed command of police department after troubled history
  • Completed 1.7 million dollar building renovation
  • Implemented cost controls to produce budget surplus of 5.7 million dollars

Oak Park Dept. of Public Safety – Director of Public Safety   1983- 2006

  • Progressive Police and Fire duties in a fully integrated Public Safety Department
  • Promoted to Director of Public Safety in June 2004
  • Annexation of 2,500 residents and � Square Mile of property and buildings
  • Performed impact study of adding  250 new residential units upon public safety services
  • Improved media cooperation and the public image of the department.
