The McGregor Library has a rich history and is a symbol of community pride. With a comprehensive restoration, the Library may once again become an integral part of the social and economic fabric of the city. Redstone Architects, Inc. and its team of consultants performed a Feasibility Study of the historic facility. The goal of this study was to develop a Master Plan for the ongoing use and restoration of the library, and to determine the funding required to implement the plan. This Master Plan would also lead to the identification and prioritization of library services and community uses. Redstone Architects, Inc. and its team of consultants analyzed the building in detail and identified treatment areas for historic rehabilitation, general building restoration and new construction; space needs, code compliance and building systems were also examined. Plans for the McGregor Library involve the transformation of the neglected facility into an extraordinary meeting place that the general public will be eager to visit. The vision is that the McGregor Library will play host to a variety of social activities, and will serve as an important catalyst in the revitalization of the City of Highland Park. The building, while operational, was in poor physical condition due to lack of funds. The project was put on hold and is currently being reviewed for financing. We assisted the City of Highland Park in an effort to obtain funding for the historic restoration of the library. We remain actively involved and look forward to the future improvements. (2000) |
